                          Reiki

What is Reiki?
Reiki is a form of alternative medicine developed in 1922 by Mikao Usui.  It is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing.  The word Reiki consists of two Japanese words- Rei meaning "Gods Wisdom or Higher Power" and Ki which is "Life Force Energy".

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement.  It relieves energy blockages and imbalances to support overall healing and well-being.  Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit.

What are some of the benefits of Reiki?
  • deep relaxation
  • improves sleep
  • relieves pain- mental & physical
  • relieves stress
  • reduces anxiety
  • encourages self healing
  • balances energies in the body
  • improves concentration & mental clarity
  • strengthens self-esteem
  • heightens self-awareness & intuition

What happens during a Reiki treatment?
You will spend a few minutes at the beginning of the session talking to the practitioner and filling out an intake form (1st session only).  At this time you can also let the practitioner know if you have any specific issues both physical and emotional that you would like to work on.  All conversations are held in complete confidence with your practitioner.

When ready for the treatment to begin, you will lay either face up or face down on a massage table.  Reiki will treat both sides of the body so the preference is yours.  You will remain fully clothed, removing only those items that can restrict breathing or fall off, such as a scarf, glasses or shoes.

The practitioner will lay their hands either on (non-invasive) or just above the body in specific hand positions, working to release any energetic blockages.  You may feel sensations such as heat, coolness, tingling or tapping and some people fall into a deep, meditative state or fall asleep completely.  All of these reactions are normal and most people leave feeling completely relaxed and/or invigorated.

How will I feel after a Reiki treatment?
No two sessions are ever the same, as the healing energy will work with the individual in exactly the way they need in that moment.  Reiki is intelligent in nature and will always support the client to let go of whatever no longer serves them and align them back into their heart's truth & knowing.

Often much of what occurs and shifts during the session is outside of the mind's conscious awareness.  The flow or effect can be subtle and other times will be profoundly obvious.  It is important to note that no session is more powerful than the other, regardless of the outcome.

Reiki will always bring clarity and truth.

What is a Distance Reiki Healing session?
Receiving Reiki from a distance or remote session has the same benefits as if receiving a treatment in person.  The practitioner will work to re-balance the chakra system and send Reiki energy to the client.  You can book a specific date and time for the treatment, however Reiki can be sent at any time and will be received by the client.

How often should I receive Reiki treatments?
The best answer to this question is "it depends".  The amount of Reiki treatments needed can vary from a one-time visit to weekly or monthly sessions.  Like other therapeutic techniques, preventative maintenance is beneficial as opposed to waiting until you go into crisis mode.  However, the choice is yours and should be based on how you are feeling both physically and emotionally.  Reiki is cumulative and even those who don't notice much during or after the first treatment, usually have progressively deeper experiences if they continue.

Is Reiki a medical treatment?
Reiki practitioners do not diagnose conditions, prescribe medications, perform medical treatment or interfere with the treatment of a licensed medical professional.  Reiki does compliment all other healing modalities to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
